About ANMET and its primary role
ANMET is a not-for- profit association incorporated in Victoria, consisting of a number of professional maritime education and training specialist companies and institutions. ANMET's primary role is the export of its member's maritime education and training expertise and skills and to facilitate sharing knowledge, expertise and services among its members.
ANMET Member's main area of education and training activity is in the following areas:
- Maritime safety
- Programs to Australian STCW 95 standards
- Marine environment protection
- Maritime law
- Commercial shipping
- Commercial fishing
- Maritime administration
- Ship and fishing vessel building
- Port development
- Integrated coastal and oceans management

To be the gateway in Australasia to the provision of superior maritime education and training services by its member organisations to potential clients in the Asia/Pacific and Indian Ocean Regions.
ANMET's Mission
ANMET is committed to achieving the highest levels in providing professional maritime education and training services and delivering quality programs to our clients which will enhance their ability to meet their international maritime obligations and domestic maritime regulations.
ANMET's Corporate Structure
ANMET Inc., formerly called Australian Maritime Training Inc. was incorporated under the Associations Incorporations At 1981 of Victoria on 21 April 1995. Its new name, ANMET, was registered on 12 June 2002.
The ANMET Rules of Association, which were last amended on 7 March 2003, specify the structure of ANMET consisting of members, a committee and the committee's 'office bearers' lead by a chair. The Rules also detail election procedures and the functions of the office bearers.
In addition to the Rules of Association ANMET has a set of Operating Rules which have been formulated to ensure that all members are able to benefit through equitable distribution of projects to each member's satisfaction.
The Operating Rules provide in more detail how ANMET is managed on a day to day basis. The Operating Rules outlines the roles and responsibilities of the Committee of Management and the Executive Officer.
ANMET does not contract to undertake projects, this is left to ANMET members either jointly or where only one member wishes to undertake a project then the contract is entered into by the individual company.
ANMET Goals and Strategies
- Promote awareness of ANMET by appropriate Commonwealth government agencies, international organisations and forums such as Asia - Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) as well as countries in the Asia/Pacific and Indian Ocean region through improved marketing techniques.
- The establishment and maintenance of an ANMET Website which will include a data base of member's skills and capabilities.
- Develop a marketing strategy which will identify opportunities for members to obtain project work in the Asia/Pacific and Indian Ocean region.
- Form alliances with organisations which are in a position to assist ANMET in project management and achieve greater exposure.
- Provide improved communication and networking activities through the publication of a quarterly electronic newsletter to members.
- Form alliances with organisations which are in a position to utilise the capabilities and skills of ANMET members e.g. Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA), the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), South Pacific Regional Environmental Program (SPREP) and South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme (SACEP) by entering into MOU's, where appropriate.
- Provide an information workshop on an annual basis, in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting, highlighting the skills and capabilities of ANMET members to potential users of ANMET services.
