Key Competencies
The Faculty supplies training in Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, and Boat and Shipbuilding from entry level to advanced diploma as well as training for all other Transport-related studies including Road, Rail and Air. The Faculty specialises in AMSA and NSW Maritime accredited programs including most aspects of STCW 95.
Courses
- Certificate and Diploma / Advanced Diploma courses in a wide range of areas related to Boat and Shipbuilding, Chief and Second Marine Engineers, Watchkeepers, Integrated Ratings and Deck Officers, Maritime Studies and Transport and Distribution. Short courses including Marine First Aid, Marine Fire Fighting, Marine Electrical and Electronics, Marine Sea Safety and Survival, Basic Elements of Shipboard Safety and STCW95 Revalidation.
- Accredited by AMSA, and NSW Waterways to deliver approved programs.
- Accredited with Institute of Marine Engineers, Science and Technology, London.
- Primary campus at Newcastle.
- Extensive experience with foreign students.
- Member of Maritime And Seafood Training and Research Alliance (Master Alliance) and this provides the capability to draw on resources of all members facilities, expertise and capability to deliver all courses maritime.
- As a Faculty within TAFE NSW supported by the NSW State Government we have the capacity to enlist services within TAFE to support all manner of courses as well as Maritime
The Faculty offers a range of short courses catering to the Maritime Industry at any time and in any location. Workplace delivery and workplace assessment is available on request.

Specialised Equipment

Full range of plant, equipment and facilities to comply with
requirements of legislative bodies including TAFE NSW, AMSA, NSW
Maritime (previously
Waterways), IMarEST, Lloyds register, ISO 9001. - Fully operational bridge simulator and extensively equipped Marine Electrical, Electronics and PLC labs.
- All equipment specified to meet the standards of a Registered Training Organisation within the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) and as required by Australian National Training Authority (ANTA).
- All resources and capabilities that are available through the Master Alliance members and the capability and support of TAFE NSW
