Inter Oil, a member of AMOSC recently completed the construction and commissioning of a small refinery/shipping terminal adjacent to Port Moresby. AMOSC assisted in the development of contingency plan, selection of equipment and the training of personnel. Two levels of course were conducted; the first being Management of spills. This course was aimed at ensuring that management were familiar with the facility contingency plan and the strategies for response. The second level of course focussed at the operator level provided guidance in the deployment and recovery of the hardware.
A series of Manager and Operator training workshops were conducted during 2004 for industry clients, Shell, Mobil and BP at various locations around Fiji.
Manager/Operator workshops will be held at the AMOSC, Geelong facility in 2005 for a team from the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) organisation. This training has been provided annually for some years.
AMOSC recently reached agreement with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and the various state authorities to develop a Competency Based system for Oil Response Training, which will be recognised within the Australian National Training Association (ANTA) framework.
Specialised Equipment
Extensive range of oil spill management equipment, dispersants. These are containerised for rapid deployment. AMOSC has some participating companies "off-shore" and can be called out by AMSA. However, notionally AMOSC does not respond to overseas action. (EARL in Singapore is the more likely source).
